Projects close to our hearts
Sandpit engineers
We promote youngsters with our "Sandpit Engineers" project. In launching this initiative, we are aiming specifically at encouraging pre-school children at nursery school to get interested in science and technology. This involves us working closely with the University and the University of Applied Sciences of Osnabrück. We are also supported by the VDI Verein Deutscher Ingenieure (Association of German Engineers).
Under the guidance of a student from the faculties of Science / Technology and Educational Science of the University / University of Applied Sciences of Osnabrück, the young researchers can discover the wonderful world of technology and perform research of their own in a playful way. For example, experiments are performed on such topics as the expansion of air, optical illusions and solubility in water, for which the children compile their own researcher book. In this easy-to-understand way, the children get to experience the correlations from the fields of physics, chemistry, mathematics and electrical engineering.
Furthermore, as part of this project, RST finances experimental lab kits as well as further education and advanced training measures for the educators.
Brainstormers
Football is also close to RST’s heart – putting it more precisely, robot football. During the 2007 World Cup Championship, the “Brainstormers” team from the University of Osnabrück sponsored by RST successfully defended its world championship title. The team is made up of scientists and students from the faculties of Computer Science, Psychology and Cognitive Sciences.
In a fiercely fought-out competition, in what is known as the “Middle Size League” with robots measuring up to 80 cm high, the “Brainstormers” beat the team from Japan 2:0 in the final. Also in the 2D Simulation League with its top-class contenders, they managed to beat their competitors from China in the final.
Incidentally, the team from the University of Osnabrück was also the only team in this league to go without losing a single match throughout the entire competition.
